Georgia Adderley aiming to build on home success at Dunlop British Junior Open

Georgia Adderley is hoping to build on her JC Lindsay Scottish Junior Open success when she competes in this week’s Dunlop British Junior Open.

The 17-year-old won the GU19 Scottish Junior Open title in Edinburgh on Sunday after beating defending champion and top seed Sneha Sivakumar from Singapore in the final, 11-6, 2-11, 11-8, 11-7.

Georgia heads to Birmingham in confident mood but knows she faces a stern challenge against some of the best junior players in the world.

“It’s one of my favourite events of the year so I’m really looking forward to it,” she said.

“Every match will be tough and I won’t be looking too far past my first round.

“Going in to the Scottish Junior Open, I wasn’t expecting too much. In the first couple of rounds I struggled a bit with a hamstring niggle and I was happy just to be on court come Sunday.

“It was great to get the win in front of the home support and my family and it was a real boost heading into the British Junior Open.”

Georgia enjoyed a great 2018 which saw her secure a second successive Dunlop British Junior Championship (BJC) title following her bronze alongside Elspeth Young and Carrie Hallam for Edinburgh Sports Club at the European Club Championships earlier in the year.

She also helped Scotland win promotion back to European Division One for the first time since 2012 at the European Team Championships in Wroclaw, Poland

Her success saw Adderley win the 2018 Scottish Women in Sport Young Sportswoman of the Year Award and she was a proud ambassador for World Squash as the sport was showcased at the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games in October.

This year she aims to make a mark on the PSA circuit having competed in a number of PSA events last year.

She added: “I played a few PSA events in 2018 and learned a lot, particularly the mental side of things and how I should approach events and matches. Hopefully that can help when I compete this year.

“I have a wildcard entry into the Edinburgh Open at the end of January and I’m really excited to play in that.

“Court five is my favourite court in Scotland and it would be great to get back out there again.

Georgia is competing in the Dunlop British Junior Open alongside fellow Scots Andrew Glen, John Green, Charlie Henderson, Robyn MacAlpine, John Meehan, Alasdair Prott, Kyle Penman and Rory Richmond, Megan Evans,
