Live Active offer free squash to boost game across Perth and Kinross
Live Active Leisure is working closely with Scottish Squash and Perth and Kinross Council to introduce more people to the game of squash, following the impact of the Covid pandemic.
The partnership has launched a new initiative offering free squash sessions at four of Live Active Leisure’s sites for the whole month of November. The facilities include Bells Sports Centre in Perth, Breadalbane Community Campus in Aberfeldy, Loch Leven Centre near Kinross and the Strathearn Community Campus in Crieff.
Locals interested in having a go can contact any one of the four clubs and book a free session in November. Equipment including squash rackets and balls will be provided free of charge.
Kerr Smith, Operations Manager at Bell’s Sports Centre said: “Live Active are delighted to work with Scottish Squash and the local Squash Community to help the sport recover from the pandemic. When Mark Beaumont from Tayside & Fife Squash approached us asking for support to raise awareness, we were happy to help.
The aim of this initiative is to attract new people to the sport; we’ve removed the cost barrier in a bid to encourage people to bring a friend or family member along and use the facility free of charge. Many people haven’t played because they have never had the opportunity to play. Therefore, for the month of November, we’re giving the people of Perth & Kinross that opportunity.
If you’ve never picked up a racket before, come down and have a go. Racketball is great for beginners. If you have played before, please encourage your friends and family to come along and give it a try. It’s free and we will provide all the equipment, including rackets and balls. We hope people will get behind this initiative and support it by coming into our venues and enjoy trying something new”.
Mark Beaumont, President of Tayside and Fife Squash Association said: “I hope that the Live Active promotion will give squash a huge boost by increasing awareness and participation within the sport. Squash is such a fantastic game to play; it’s very easy to get started but certainly difficult to master.”
Allan McKay, Director of Development, Scottish Squash said: “Squash is easy to pick up and great fun to play, while delivering great health benefits. We have some superb club facilities across Perth and Kinross, each providing excellent courts, coaching services and leagues for players of all levels.”
We want more people to enjoy this wonderful game and working with great partners such as Perth and Kinross Council, Live Active Leisure and the clubs, we are working hard to grow the game across Perth and Kinross following the impact of the Covid pandemic.”
