Junior Inter-Regionals preview: Young Scots set to take centre stage
Scotland’s young squash stars and future prospects are set to take centre-stage at the Scottish Junior Inter-Regional Championships as Scotland’s squash season gets underway at Oriam this weekend.
A total of 102 juniors from across Scotland will go head-to-head across five age groups, to determine which region will come out on top.
As the only competition during the year where regions compete directly, as well as great experiences and competitive squash, bragging rights are also up for grabs.
From Under 11s enjoying their first experience of competition, to Under 19s looking to fine-tune their game, the Inter-Regionals provides an excellent opportunity for Scotland’s young players to develop their game.
For the first time since Covid, all six regions from across Scotland will be represented.
That means that young players from Central, East of Scotland, Grampian, Highlands and Islands, Tayside and Fife and West of Scotland will be on court, hoping to enjoy the experience and represent their region with pride.
With the experience of the World Junior Championships in Australia under their belt, the Under 19s looks set to be a highly competitive field.
Oliver Hunter, Rowan Niven, Finlay Halton, Natalie Main and Robyn McAlpine will all represent their respective areas with pride, putting aside the bonds forged in the summer to battle it out for the top prize on court.
Playing in the West Under 17 team, Louisa Kaven will look to build on her fine performances in Melbourne, and a recent victory at the Finnish Junior Squash Open, with a strong showing on court over the course of the weekend.
