Allan McKay leaving Scottish Squash for pastures new

After 8 years with Scottish Squash, Allan McKay will leave his role as director of development in the summer to take on a similar role with Scottish Cycling.

Allan joined Scottish Squash in 2016 and has worked across several areas of the organisation, supporting the development and growth of squash at all levels.

Throughout this period Allan has led considerable work to secure and deliver successful major squash events in Scotland including the 2022 World Doubles Championships, Springfield Scottish Squash Open, and the 2019 European Club Championships, in partnership with Edinburgh Sports Club.

Allan has also been part of continued efforts to widen access across all levels of the sport, focusing heavily on retaining and creating partnerships to support new and increased participation. With the organisation shortlisted for governing body of the year within this period, and the sports’ inclusion in the Olympics from LA28, there is a lot for the sport to be proud of and to look forward to in the future.

Commenting on his decision to leave the organisation, Allan said: “I’ve enjoyed 8 fantastic years with Scottish Squash and have been lucky to play a small part in an organisation that has achieved so much over that time.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work with such committed colleagues both past and present who work so hard to ensure squash in Scotland continues to develop.

“In addition, the opportunity to work with so many passionate people and volunteers across the squash community has added to such an enjoyable experience and it’s thanks to them for the progress that squash has achieved.

“Although it has been a difficult decision to move on, I am looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead. Having been involved in squash virtually all my life, I look forward to continuing to engage with and support squash, albeit in a different capacity.

Maggie Still, Chief Executive, said: “Allan has been an outstanding colleague and has achieved so much at Scottish Squash. We are extremely grateful to Allan for his commitment and for all that he has delivered for the sport. He has raised the bar in the delivery of squash in Scotland. We congratulate Allan for his exciting new role with Scottish Cycling and wish him every success in his future career.”

Allan will leave his role at the end of June 2024.
