Sterling Trucks Scottish Senior Nationals – Day 2

Day 2 of the Sterling Trucks Scottish Senior Closed Championships brought all of the tough competition that was predicted.

Chris Leiper and Graham Melvin started the day with a fierce battle that ended in a Melvin win – 15/13 in the fifth; Claire Gadsby managed to win 11/9 in the fifth against Kirsty Lobban; Elspeth Young overcame a bad injury to her leg to defeat No.2 seed, Helen Nicoll; while Stuart George fought hard to win 11/3 in the fifth against Chris Shinnie; and Helen then finished off the morning by defeating No.1 seed and 5-time National Champion, Senga Macfie, 11/3 in the fifth.

The afternoon session was no less intense with Kirsty Lobban taking out Senga Macfie 15/13 in the fourth after 6 match balls; Stuart George pushing No.3 seed, Dougie Kempsell, only to go down 3-1 in a tight contest; Jamie Henderson played excellent squash but was overcome by even better squash by Kevin Moran in a highly entertaining match; and Greg Lobban and Alan Clyne showing their class against Graham Melvin and Rory Stewart, respectively, with quality 3-0 wins.

Sunday matches commence at 9:20am with the critical Men’s selection matches starting at 10:40.
