Junior Excellence Programme 2015/16

Only 2 weeks after the U15/17 European Team Championships brought the 2014/15 season to a close, the 2015/16 season got underway on Saturday, 30 May with the first SSRL Junior Excellence Programme training day of the new season.

Incorporating the HWU Junior Academy and National Talent Squad, the JEP training days bring together the most promising junior players from across Scotland for a mixture of technical and tactical squash sessions, combined with other activities such sports psychology or performance lifestyle workshops and fitness testing or Strength and Conditioning circuits.

Fraser McCann becomes the only new addition for the 2015/16 season having successfully represented Scotland at the U15 Five Nations and been part of the U15 Team that finished 4th at the recent U15 ETC.

The National Youth Squad, consisting of those players who are currently transitioning from junior to senior level, were also in attendance and had a busy day with two training sessions of their own as well as assisting with the coaching of the junior players. With several HWU Academy and N.T.S. members having recently “graduated”, the Youth Squad is rapidly growing and will continue to do so as the season progresses with more players set to end their junior careers in the coming months.

Members of the Senior squad (National Team) added further expertise to the coaching team by working alongside the Regional Performance Network Head Coaches – Martin Woods (West), Phil McWilliams (Central), Mark Beaumont (Tayside and Fife), Claire Gray (East) and Dave Ireson (Grampian).

A full list of HWU Academy and National Talent Squad members can be found here.

Dates of all sessions for the 2015/16 season can be found on the SSRL events calendar.
