World International Doubles 2016

Clyne & Lobban didn’t have it all their own way against Kempsell & Moran, especially with some incredibly fluid attacking play from Kev in the 2nd game, though it was the No.2 seeds that came through 2-1, 11-7 in the 3rd. Next round at 2.30pm for both teams.

Clyne & Lobban posted another 2-1 win, this time over a potentially tricky Wales. Douglas Kempsell & Kevin Moran held leads against the Malaysian team in both games, though some inconsistent play led ultimately to a 2-0 loss from a winnable match. Clyne & Lobban head the group, and Kempsell & Moran still have chances to advance.

Tough day for Kempsell & Moran as they lose two hard matches against New Zealand & Wales 2-1. Clyne & Lobban played well though went down to a competitive Kiwi squad. The group stages are still not decided as Malaysia still have to play NZ in the morning. Permutations: If NZ win then Clyne & Lobban go through to play No.1 seeds Pilley & Cuskelly in the semis. Malaysia need to win 2-0 to go through; 2-1 and it comes down to points between Malaysia & Scotland.

The Kiwis topped Group B after beating Malaysia 2-0, so Clyne & Lobban go through to play Pilley & Cuskelly in the semi-finals. Kempsell & Moran play off for 9/10th.

A great day for Scottish Squash. First, Kempsell & Moran upset the seedings by beating the Malaysian pair of Chal & Yuen 2-1. Both teams had very tough matches against all the top teams, and was a great way to fnish the tournament. Next, Clyne & Lobban beat No.1 seeds Pilley & Cuskelly 2-1. It was a hard fought and well deserved victory, both players playing stubborn defense and quality attack to clinch the big points and seal their place in the final of the World Doubles Championships. The final is at 6pm Darwin time, so tune in to the streaming to show support for the lads as they try to clinch a world title for Scotland.
