MO70 – Report
Great entry, 6 players made up of the Home International Team and plus new young whipper snapper Roy Gordon. Players were split into two groups playing round robin. Bernard winning box 1 and Roy ‘I’m coming to get you’ winning box 2.
Roy after his game against Alfred said he was extremely pleased at getting two wins to reach the final. Beware of the man (Alfred Thomson) from Peterhead! It was a most enjoyable match, anyone’s game. On his impressions of joining over 70’s …you need to be in control of the ball and adjust your play.
Bernard Starkey commented on his match with Ken Reid it could easily have been a ‘final’ it was so close…2 games went to 10-9 totally exhausting close match. This so easily could have gone either way. Great result 3-1 to get into final.
Alfred on his match with David Brown this was all about David not being able to answer the tight service and touch play coming from him and so to the final matches. Bernard v Roy (rank 1 & 2 match), Roy had no answers to Bernard’s power play and control and seemed to be effected by his earlier strenuous efforts in his match with Alfred. He then tweaked his knee to further hinder his movement. Bernard winning his first encounter with Roy is looking forward to enjoying more tussles in the future.
Ken v Alfred (rank 3 & 4 match) Alfred was clearly affected by his efforts from his tussle with Roy and had no answer to Ken’s hard service. Ken controlled the match and ran away with the win.
Ian & David (rank 5 & 6 match) Last match up and a good end to the day for Ian who saved his best for the last playing some wonderful tight play to come away with his first win. David was left to reflect on his performance over the weekend.
