Back-to-back titles for Angus Gillams down under

Scotland’s Angus Gillams (2) made it back-to-back wins down under on Sunday (August 18) which secured him a tenth PSA Tour title.

Last week Angus won the Men’s Steel City South Australian Open beating in-form Egyptian youngster Moustafa El Sirty in the final 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8.

The pair were back on court together for a second consecutive final at the weekend, this time in Shepparton, Victoria, with Angus victorious again in four to land the Men’s City of Greater Shepparton International title – 11-2, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4.

El Sirty, a recent World Junior Championship runner-up, had knocked out three seeds on his way to his latest final but Angus proved too strong for the unseeded teen with the win making it three PSA titles for 2019 since his return to the tour.

The women’s event was won by England’s Grace Gear, above with Angus.

Angus won the Gibraltar Open in June beating Czech top seed Martin Svec 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-5 in the final.

His Australasian travels continue this week as he heads to Coffs Harbour, NSW, for the Roberts & Morrow North Coast Open.

The fourth seed has a bye into round two and is expected back on court this Thursday (August 22).

He’s joined in Coffs Harbour by fellow Scots Katriona Allan and Georgia Adderley (8) who are in the women’s draw.

In what’s her third PSA event down under, unseeded Katriona takes on Colette Sultana (MLT) on Friday.

Georgia, who flew out to Australia last week, is up against Argentinian wildcard Pilar Etchechoury on the same day.

Both players then head to Victoria for the Melbourne Open starting on August 30.
