December 2018 Scottish Squash Newsletter
As we approach the end of 2018 our final newsletter of the year includes a look back at our groundbreaking Girls Do Squash campaign which was showcased at the 2018 Scottish Women in Sport Conference (SWiS).
The campaign in association with SWiS and The University of the West of Scotland aimed to help drive participation in squash for women and girls with a number of programmes rolled out during 2018.
Meanwhile, Scotland’s number one female player Lisa Aitken, who was heavily involved in our Girls Do Squash initiative, won her fourth PSA tour title in Italy last Sunday (December 16).
The left-hander secured victory at the Internazionali D’Italia tournament in Riccione courtesy of a 3-1 (11-3, 12-14, 11-5, 13-11) win over Switzerland’s Cindy Merlo before flying straight to Helsinki for her final PSA event of 2018.
Back in Scotland, the Scottish Junior Doubles Championships took place at Scotstoun this month with the winners of the Boys’ event Alasdair Prott and Harry Barron, below, in a festive mood.
The pair are back in action at the JC Lindsay Scottish Junior Open from December 28-30 and we look ahead to that and next month’s Edinburgh Sports Club Open Championships in the newsletter.
