Newlands Junior Open – Test Series Cometition Postponed – Statement
Newlands Junior Open – Test Series Competition: Saturday 6th – Sunday 7th November
Newlands Lawn Tennis Club, Glasgow
Scottish Squash and Newlands Lawn Tennis Club (Glasgow) have announced the postponement of the planned Newlands Junior Open – Test Series competition, scheduled to take place on the 6th – 7th November at Newlands Lawn Tennis Club in Glasgow, as a result of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) taking place in Glasgow.
COP26 is scheduled to take place in Glasgow from Sunday, October 31st to Friday, November 12th and is expected to cause significant disruption across Glasgow and the West of Scotland as a result of road closures and potential strike action across the city. Additionally the conference is causing challenges to accommodation availability and costs.
Taking this into account Scottish Squash and Newlands Lawn Tennis Club have agreed to postpone the planned Newlands Junior Open. Both Scottish Squash and Newlands Lawn Tennis Club would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during the planning and advertising of this competition. We will be in touch with all players who have entered shortly and arrange a full refund for the competition.
Further plans are being developed to run the test series competition before the end of 2021 and we are soon to be launching and opening entry for a junior test series event scheduled to take place on the 11th – 12th December in Oriam; Scotland’s Sports Performance Centre at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Additionally, a masters level test series competition will be taking place at Newlands Lawn Tennis Club, Glasgow on Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st November. Entry for this competition will be opening soon.
As we continue to progress through the Covid-19 pandemic plans are being developed to transition back onto the national squash in Scotland competitions pathway from January 2022 which we hope will increase competition opportunity across Scotland for all age groups. Further information can be found in our October competitions update, available here.
