Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of Bert Mitchell.

Bert was a very active member of Bridge of Allan Sports Club and made frequent use of all the club’s facilities. Depending on the time of year, you would regularly find him on a tennis court, on a squash court or more recently playing padel, after which he could be found socialising at the bar.

During his time at the club, Bert was both a Junior and Senior Club Tennis Champion. He devoted his spare time to support the club in both Squash Convenor and Vice President committee positions. His most active time on the committee was as Squash Convenor which saw him bring in team sponsorships, introduce the club to the East Squash League, reintroduce the club to the Crieff and District Squash League and volunteer his sports journalist skills to create many ‘column inches’ in the Stirling Observer.

He was a big personality, who contributed much to the club and will be missed by everyone who stepped on court with him and socialised with him.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his wife, Arlene, and daughter, Ava, at this time.

A funeral ceremony for Bert will be held on Thursday 9th May at 11am at Bridge of Allan Parish Church.

A collection will be made for Going Forward with Bridge of Allan Stroke Club.
