Scottish Squash delighted Commonwealth Games set for Glasgow return in 2026

Scottish Squash is delighted that the Commonwealth Games will return to Glasgow in 2026, after the Scottish and UK Governments confirmed their support for Team Scotland’s new concept for the event.

Having experienced the thrill of a home games ten years ago, the country will look forward to another opportunity to host one of the sporting calendar’s crown jewels in Scotland.

With the reduced number of sports planned for the games yet to be confirmed, Scottish Squash has engaged fully with Commonwealth Games Scotland to support the bid, and will continue to make the case for the inclusion of the world’s healthiest sport.

The Commonwealth Games is a key event for squash players in Commonwealth countries – taking pride of place alongside the Olympic Games in 2028 as a spotlight for the sport.

Following doubles bronze medal success for Greg Lobban and Rory Stewart in 2022, Scotland’s top players are ready to give their all in pursuit of medal success.

Responding to the announcement, Scottish Squash CEO Maggie Still said: “The confirmation of government support for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow is fantastic news for Scottish sport.

“Glasgow has a fine tradition of hosting elite sport, including the unforgettable Commonwealth Games in 2014 – and in squash, the 2022 World Squash Doubles Championship – which we all fondly remember.

“The Commonwealth Games has served as the pinnacle of the career of generations of squash players, and we are thrilled that the current generation may be afforded the same opportunity to compete on one of the grand stages.

“We have been working pro-actively with Commonwealth Games Scotland and all of our Commonwealth Games partners, and are primed and ready to do all we can to support the delivery of an exceptional squash showcase alongside an exceptional Commonwealth Games – if squash is selected as part of the final programme of sports.”
